Combat Notes

Sky motes float about the countryside and are considered a good omen by sailors. They often proceed periods of calm weather and are never seen during violent storms. It seems that they share a certain fondness for fine wines as many humans do, and can often be found ‘sampling’ the local vintner’s wares during calm weather.

The sky motes attack with a static electric jolt when threatened. Typically they discharge bolts, each dealing 1 HP damage per bolt per turn, at a single target before moving on. Their bolts cannot be protected against any armor. Magic is the most effective way to fight them as they are too small to be accurately hit by a melee weapon or even a projectile weapon. They take half damage from metal weaponry as well. You will never encounter less that 10 sky motes but could encounter up to 500 of them, all acting as one unit.

Combat Notes

Sprites love their privacy and go out of the way to seek out overgrown thickets where other intelligent creatures tend to avoid. Children stumbling into their homes are treated with courtesy and respect so long as the child behaves themselves, but adults are turned back with poisoned darts, illusions, or, if necessary, very lethal force.

Sprites attack, and are encountered, in groups of 12 to 50. Their primary weapon is a tiny bow, the arrows of which are usually poisoned to induce sleep, illness, or damage. They also know the secret to a highly toxic venom that kills even in small amounts. Groups of five sprites are capable of creating realistic illusions by acting in concert, and several units of illusionists often coordinate with bow wielding warriors to turn away large forces and dangerous animals.

Sprite's weapons and items are too small to steal or loot by most races. However a fae character could steal, loot, and use sprite weapons and items only when in shrunken form. If you have a sprite as a familiar, your sprite familiar can also steal, loot, and use sprite items.
