Religious Identity: The Church of Mogen David
Founding Date: Year 60 BTE though many of it's principals are traced back to an even older religion.
Religious Center: Since the Ablution Event there hasn't been a central location for the Church of Mogen David. Instead, each major city that worships this religion has their own set of doctrines and each church practices independently.

2. History

The Church of Mogen David was officially founded in the year 60 B.T.E. The leaders of the various churches of Mogen David gather in the town of Aureas, where they not only finally record a common book for the young religion, the Vitale Scribius, which became more commonly called the Book of Truth or the Book of Life; they also established a central church. The Orthodox Church of Davidism however did not start until after the Great Magic War, in the year 60 of the Second era, by a group of dissenting priests and bishops. They believed that the Church of Mogen David placed too much emphases on worldly leaders, and not enough of Mogen David.
According to their scriptures and popular belief however, the true founding father of the religion was the Mogen David himself. His name was also lost amongst various translations, and eventually the Great Magic War. However their oldest scriptures are linked back to the Archelians. The fact that they pray to same God does little to disdain any hard feelings among them. Another religion also holds some parallelism and similar text, the Ardathians.
According to the Church of Mogen David, in the year 298 BTE  Zodo's Soul once again has been hard at work at warping and perverting the minds and souls of the Nor'Ovans. Knowing that only his own spirit could protect the souls of Nor'Ovans and satisfied that the other Hosts had their respected parts of the Universe well tended to, Archelus set in motion a great plan. He transformed himself into a mortal man, Mogen David, and descended upon Nor'Ova. He was discovered as a young boy coming down from Cardinal Point, a singular reddish mountain in the northern most part of what was then called the Ascian Continent. He was discovered by a farmer plains elf, Arnoth of the Cardinal Point tribe, who became known as Arnoth Lightbringer.
In the year 276 BTE  Mogen David's messages and teachings of peace, forgiveness, and love as well as his disdain for the traditions that the Archelist priests made law in Archelus's name caused the Archelist priests to view Mogen David as a false prophet. Customary to the rules and laws of the time, false prophets were hung from trees or temple walls and gutted. Such was the case for Mogen David, hung from a tree in garbage dump of the ascian town of Bellitose. But when they went to gut him, Mogen David had already given up the ghost, but not before stating that he forgave them.
By the year 200 BTE the first churches of Mogen David, of the new religion of Davidism, began to show up. They were created by the original disciples of Mogen David. Each differed than each other though, as there was no singular written record of Mogen David's teachings. Instead, each disciple had recorded what they remembered. In the spring of 180 BTE The Spirit of Mogen David first descended upon Nor'Ova and could now be called upon those who desire protection from the Soul of Zodo's spiritual perversions. This event was marked with a event where the first believers of Mogen David started speaking and understanding the divine language of Archelus, who they now regard as transformed into Mogen David.
The church spread until the year 2034 of the First Era when Xerxes Zodo outlawed the belief. The amount of worshipers of the Church of Mogen David dropped drastically as it survived only hidden from few or in rebel freedom figther lands. Using great technologies, Xerxes Zodo persecuted the Davidists, proclaiming that they were bad for peace. And as technology advanced, so did new ways to torture Davidists. Religious scriptures were often destroyed when found, so Davidists had to find new ways to record their holy book. Often changing dialects and languages such practice accidentally led to the permanent removal of certain passages and names. But at least, the core messages remained intact. In the year 2066 of the First Era, The Second Great World War, known by many now as the Great Magic War began. Countless were still loyal to Xerxes Zodo's government, but many more, especially Davidists, longed for the times when Xerxes Zodo was not around. Under direction of the paladin Taal Mercleis, they were able to defeat Xerxes Zodo in the year 2078 of the First Era, also commonly called year 0 of the Second Era.
After the fall of Xerxes Zodo, and of first era society, referred to as The Breaking, the Davidists worked to reestablish society throughout Nor'Ova, and continue to work to spread the word of Mogen David to areas long forgotten. The Church continued to spread during the Second and Third Eras despite constant attacks by Zodoist and Zodo himself. In the Fourth Era the Church almost fell apart thanks to the deception of a man known as Sataar who was in fact the leader of the zodo-church Lector Clairstory. After the Battle of Capa City in 840 of the Fourth Era, Armeas Mercleis, emperor of Asteria, reorganized the church and removed the title of Priest Errant, making the Church of Mogen David answerable to him.>

After the defeat and supposed final death of Zodo in 850 of the Fourth Era (the fall of Taal Zodo) and the resulting Great Magic Apocalypse (also known as the Ablution Event) that started the Fifth Era, the Church struggled to survive. No longer existing as one unified church, the religion continued through word of mouth and teachings within the underground shelters. When the people of Nor'Ova finally came above ground and built their cities, they all attempted to build the central church for the Church of Mogen David within their city. Being cut off from others in other lands and too remote from other cities within their own land, the result has been that the church is not unified, and even the teachings vary from city to city. Perhaps the one thing they can all agree upon is proclaiming the heroes who killed Zodo as saints…

3. Religious Symbols

Mogen's Sword
Mogen's Sword is the primary symbol used in the Church of Mogen David since the Second Era. It resembles a sword passing through something similar to a Star of David.
The sword is supposed to represent the word of Mogen David.
The Star of David that the sword passes through symbolizes the word coming from Mogen David.
The Sword of Mogen has been used since the reign of Xerxes Zodo, when worshipers were being killed for simply portraying a crucifix. However, the Sword of David could easily be worked into heraldry and other art forms and escape detection. Since the Magic War, many still cling to this symbol, and it has been ever since recognized as the official symbol of the Church of Mogen David.

Wiki+ page: Zodoism

1. Basic Information

Religion: Zodoism, followers often called Zodoists
Religious Identity: The Church of the Holy Body, though each follows a different "aspect" of Zodo; Templars of Mercy would fall in here as well though the aspect they follow is often regarded as "anti-zodo" to some.
Founding Date: Year 650 of the First Era (as a religion as a whole)
Religious Center (5th Era): Will - the Grand Cathedral of the Eternal Flame in Capa City
Zodo? - Theocracy of Vega
Spirit - no singular church since Spirit went "missing"
Power - no church since Power was shattered
The Templars of Mercy - somewhere in Chalcedonia
Religious Authority: Although none within the Holy Body would admit to it, the Holy Body is not one singular church. There are different "Churches of the Holy Body", who each follow a different aspect of Zodo. As such, each has their own leadership structure. The most promiment one at the time however is the Church of the Holy Body in Capa City which worships Kious Zodo (Will of Zodo), so we will focus on that one.

The head of the church is the High Priest, who currently is Amos. It is said that the High Priest answers to Zodo himself, who in this time comes in the form of Kious Zodo. Kious Zodo would be the direct head of the Church in that regard. The church then splits into two branches: the Holy Ministry of Rube Knights and the Clerical Order of Divine Ministry. The Rube Knights is the militant arm consisting of devote highly trained templars. It is headed by the Grand Inquisitor. The Clerical Order is the order of priests, and of course is headed by the High Priest. Under him are Cardinals who direct the priests and faith leaders.
Religious Scripture: The Divine Incantations
Core Values: The Church as a Whole - They profess that Zodo is the one true god of all things and he gives way for all beings to become god-like themselves. They don't believe in good versus evil, or at least they don't publically profess to believe  in such. Instead they believe in just positive or negative morals of conduct and that the 'good' or the 'bad' of one's conduct is never simply black or white and depends upon the circumstances behind the conduct. They believe that all spirits are connected and it is the spirit that holds the ultimate power, given to them through the Power of Zodo. They believe that one could become immortal, but should they die they would go to Xodod and their treatment in Xodod would depend upon their overall conduct and their strength of faith in life, if they were generally good and had strong faith, they would spend the afterlife as lords of Xodod, otherwise they would be bound to the same faith as all nonbelievers being tortured for eternity.

Those who follow the Will of Zodo believe that the Will and by extension Kious Zodo is the true coming of Zodo, that others before were fake. The more devout do not acknowledge other apsects of Zodo, with many never knowing of the other aspects. They believe that the Will is simply Zodo, and serve him as supreme. "Will over All" is their moto, and the way they live their lives and treat others. Everyone must serve the Will of Zodo or their life is forfeit.

Those who followed the Power of Zodo back in the Fourth Era (and some who still do) don't hold to the same extremes as those who follow the Will. While thanks to Taal the other aspects of Zodo had been forgotten, they understood that there was something greater. Some took to the oath of "Power over All" while others took to the oath of "Power to Protect All". The later became known as Taalinites, and eventually became the Templar's of Mercy.

Those who follow the Spirit of Zodo believe and acknowledge all other aspects of Zodo and believe that the Spirit is the part of Zodo that deals with spiritual matters. They are very fundementalist, taking every word of the Divine Incantations as the ultimate truth, but over all are farily decent people. "With Spirit We Overcome" is their moto.

There is a church in Vega that strangely has a different version of the Divine Incantations. They believe in only Zodo, though they think Taal Zodo was that Zodo and will one day return. Many of their believes and actions seem to resemble more the Church of Mogen David however, and it is questionable if they really are a true church of Zodo.

As of this time, it is unknown if the other aspects of Zodo have any churches or followers, though it is quite possible that they exist.

Religious Holidays:

  • 31st of Marpenoth - Day of Divine Assension and Holy Ablution - the day they say that Zodo set his plan in motion for the deliverance of all pure followers
  • 21st through 30th of Ches - Week of Holies - the week the church formally batizes in blood new members, following the tradition set by Ormus
  • 8th of every month - day of spiritual fasting and prayer
  • 40th of Fore Yule - Advent of Ablution
  • 10th of Viresse - Day of Moral Repentance - remembering the Great Magic War and the Martyrs of the Church

2. History

640 First Era: Ormus, now a priest of Mogen David and an archeologist, was sent by the church to investigate a new asteroid that fell in the Pyre Desert, one which held ruins of an odd structure on them. There he discovered the Divine Incantations, a book that was written by Zodo himself back when he had a body. Only Ormus didn't know this as he could not read the language. Ormus was instructed to translate the book.
650 First Era: Over the 10 years of translating the book, the words of Zodo found a weakness in Ormus's lack of faith, and began to corrupt him. When Ormus was finished translating the book, he felt that the book contained a hidden truth. He started the Church of the Holy Body to spread this new truth, becoming the first organized church of Zodo.
655 First Era: To protect his church, Ormus created a group of knights. Hearing them called rubes - basically beginners and worthless, Ormus grew to like that term. He thought that such a term would make the enemy underestimate his knights, giving his knights the advantage. So he had some armor made and colored ruby red, and named his knights the Rube Knights. They were called the Rubes for short.
660 First Era: Returning to the site where he found the Divine Incantations, Ormus discovered the Orb of Spirit. He used its power to add power to his sermons and make the church grow.
680 First Era: Ormus was captured by templar knights of the Church of Mogen David, as were some of hisfollowers. They were all executed for the crime of Zodo worship. The Church of the Holy Body goes into hiding, as does the Orb of Spirit.
1998 of the First Era: Lector Clairstory finds the Orb of Spirit. He becomes the leader of the Church of the Holy Body, which had come out of hiding in 1940.
2001 of the First Era: Controlled by the Orb of Spirit, Lector Clairstory forces himself on Clara Mercleis. Taal is born and given his mother's maiden name.
2005 of the First Era: A silver elf by the name of Xerxes Ironwood finds the Orb of Power while treasure hunting with some friends deep within one of the ruins that were part of the asteroids of Xenodelphia; which fell near the Crystal Mountains. Upon finding it, out of greed, Xerxes kills his friends. The Orb transformed Xerxes into a xodian.
2018 of the First Era: Xerxes and Lector Clairstory meet. Lector Clairstory agrees to follow Xerxes.
2034 of the First Era: Xerxes declares himself as Xerxes Zodo. He outlaws worship of Mogen David within the empire.
2078 of the First Era: The free people of Nor'Ova meet the army of Xerxes Zodo in what becomes Forsaken Valley. A major battle with the remaining nuclear weapons and the power of the orbs takes place, which lays to waste the region. Xerxes is killed, but the Orbs as well as Lector Clairstory have disappeared. Trismegitus also dies on the battlefield. Taal however is overcome by the battle and falls into a deep sleep known as Dark Paralysis. And thus marks the end of the First Era.
145 Second Era: Lector Clairstory recovers the Orb of Spirit. Using it, he gathers those faithful to Zodo and uses the Orb to teleport them all to the caverns of the Blessed Mountains on Feli Isle.
344 Second Era: Lector Clairstory and his faithful leave the caverns of the Blessed Mountains. They begin building the Theocracy of Xodia, with Lector Clairstory, the head of the Church of the Holy Body, as their leader.
798 Second Era: Qu'ion Sulnas, son of Emperor Sulnas II, discovers the Orb of Power. Influenced by it, he assassinates his father and takes his place, becoming Emperor Sulnas III.
799 Second Era: Through the Orb of Spirit, Lector Clairstory discovers that the new ascian emperor has the Orb of Power. Believing that this might be the return of a Vessel of Zodo, Lector Clairstory sends Emperor Sulnas III a letter suggesting a treaty between their nations; Xodia would provide Rube military support as long as they were treated as equals.
800 Second Era: Swayed by the Orb of Power, Emperor Sulnas III agrees and makes a shaky alliance with the Theocracy of Xodia.
Throughout the Third Era the Church was largely underground. This was until the rise of Taal Zodo near the end of the Third Era. In the Fourth Era the Holy Body was the only sanctioned and legal religion in the Known Lands of Nor'Ova, due to the control over the area by Taal Zodo. With Taal Zodo's defeat in 850 of the Fourth Era though, the Holy Body was split in several parts and almost decimated. The arrival of the Will of Zodo and his High Priest, Amos, though has brought a revival of the Church. Thanks to the rise of Kious Zodo in Capa City, the Church now again enjoy governmental support.

More Information

Wiki+ page: The Divine Incantations

The Divine Incantations is the holy book of the Church of the Holy Body, aka the Church of Zodo. While this here wouldn't be the whole book this page will contain parts of the book.

This page is provided to those who are curious as to the beliefs of the church that honors such a dark god, including those who might want to play as people who worship Zodo. The Church of the Holy Body is unique in that there isn't really a real world equivalent that you could look at so hopefully having this page here will be helpful to those who are interested in the Holy Body.

It should be noted that this is written from the point of view of the Holy Body. Many things in this book would not be agreed upon by those of the Church of Mogen David, and other beliefs. I decided to write this after being asked for some Incantations or sayings from the Divine Incantations for a zodoist character to use, so here it is.

You can help build this page as well If you have ideas for verses to go in this book, please feel free to PM or email them to me. If they fit with the over all theme of the book, I'll accept them as part of the book.

1. The Incantations of Genesis

- The Holy Body's Beliefs of the creation of all things

Incantation 1: "In the beginning there was Zodo and Zodo was the beginning."
Incantation 2: "Zodo desired worship, and thus he brought about life. From Zodo came the elements of earth, air, fire, water, life, death, time and space, and from these elements all things came to be."
Incantation 3: "At first all of life and creation was together with Zodo and shared in his great brilliance. Other beings came from his power that grew jealous of Zodo, Archelus being one."
Incantation 4: "Archelus conspired with the other gods which fragmented from Zodo's Power to bring down Zodo and take all of creation for themselves. They created a series of weapons meant to undo Zodo and brought to ruin his great creation, but Zodo was always a step ahead."
Incantation 5: “And a great plan was conceived to ensure that man kind and Zodo would never be separated and for the keeping of the promise of Ablution. Into three great pearls made unbreakable Zodo placed a part of himself – Will, Power, and Spirit. Zodo's Soul stayed with man and His Mind left to plan. In time a Vessel of Zodo's Choosing would come and with these pearls he'd fulfill the promise.”

2. The Incantations of Faith

- What the members of the Holy Body must believe in in order to truly be one of the Church.

Incantation 1: “Any who faithfully and wholly call upon my name and promise to give me praise, for them I will give all.”
Incantation 2: "There may be many other beings of great powers and many other gods, but there is only one supreme being and only one Zodo, who is the supreme being."
Incantation 3: "The Mind of Zodo is ever with us. Through the Mind, Zodo listens to our prayers and knows our thoughts. Nothing can be hid from Zodo, no good goes unnoticed and no sin goes unpunished."
Incantation 4: "One should not shy away from troubles and tribulations for these are the times we can truly show our faith. Instead of hiding from hardships, embrace them in Zodo's name and any hardship shall be overcome."

3. The Incantations of Truths

- What the Holy Body teaches as the absolutes that justify their faith.

Incantation 1: “Man kind has the power within themselves to be something great. Each were created to be gods of their own domain, and should they realize this and awaken their inner power this they may become. United together those with this knowledge can become greater than anything of the cosmos, save Zodo who has given them this power.”

Wiki+ page: The Holy Ministry of Rube Knights

Congratulations on becoming a warrior of the Holy Body, a great and powerful vessel of Zodo!

The Holy Ministry of Rube Knights is the protector of the Church and the enforcer of the Word of Zodo. This handbook will help you to prosper and be able to do the Will of Zodo well.

1. What is a Rube?

A Rube is a member of the Holy Ministry of Rube Knights which serves to protect and enforce the tenants of the Church of the Holy Body.

“There is no greater honor in all of Nor'Ova, nor in the skies above or in the life to come, than the honor to serve Holy Zodo and his most holy church” - Holy Father Ormus Gailmore, founder of the Church of the Holy Body and the Holy Ministry of Rube Knights.

The Holy Ministry of Rube Knights was created in the year 655 of the First Era by Ormus Gailmore, the founder of the Church of the Holy Body. At that time, the Church of the Holy Body and its members were constantly under attact my davidist extremists who sought nothing more than the monopoly on religion and man kind's soul. Guided by the spirit of Zodo, Ormus created a group of knights who would serve Church and Zodo above all things, and protect those who called Zodo their lord.

The Rubes got their name because Ormus had overheard some refer to his knights, who still in training, as rubes. Of course they meant this in a derogatory way, meaning beginner, or basically untrained and unskilled. Ormus liked the name though. He thought that if he could get his knights well trained and then give them the name of Rubes, they would be underestimated. This would give his rubes an even greater advantage. And to give the term Rube an other meaning, he had crafted armor in a deep ruby red color. This became the ceremonial armor that is occasionally seen worn by our Rubes.

“Man kind has the power within themselves to be something great. Each were created to be gods of their own domain, and should they realize this and awaken their inner power this they may become. United together those with this knowledge can become greater than anything of the cosmos, save Zodo who has given them this power.” - Incantation of Truths, The Divine Incantations, Zodo

“Rube Knights and Rube Miesters are the fulfillment of Zodo's word to us, that individually we have a great power, and together we have an even greater power. Rubes joined together have become an unstopable force. What better way to acknowledge this than to fullfil the Will of Zodo.” - High Priest Lector Clairstory, once a leader of the Church of the Holy Body

“Clerics and priests are the outstretched hand, Rubes are the sword and shield their to protect that hand and pave their way forward.” - Neerik Gulmar, once a Grand Inquisitor of the Holy Ministry of Rube Knights, the commander of the Rubes

As these quotes allude to, Rubes are the sword and shield of Zodo and of the Church of the Holy Body. As a Rube, you pledge to:

  • Safeguard each other as long as each other remains true
  • Carry out and enforce the will of Holy Zodo and his most holy church
  • Safeguard the Church, its worshipers, and the holy documents and relics

There are of course many great benefits to serving as a Rube:

  • Satisfaction in serving the one true Church and Holy Zodo
  • Blessings of Zodo
  • Training that far exceeds anything else in all Nor'Ova
  • Top of the line equipment and armor that is tailored specifically to you
  • The backing of what is regarded by all as the most powerful military force in Nor'Ova
  • Rewards for good service
  • Being able to claim what you desire from the enemies of the Church
  • Self fulfillment and great power

The Rubes are indeed the greatest, most powerful, and most feared force in all of Nor'Ova. The Holy Ministry of Rube Knights consists of various well trained sub-ministries:

  • Holy Guard: These are the guards of the churches. They guard the priests, clerics, church staff, and even the High Priest.
  • Military: This is the main arm of the Ministry, being the military of the Church of the Holy Body.
  • Intelligence: These rubes are well trained in espionage and are very vital to knowing what our enemies are up to.
  • Recruiters: These are the “kingdom builders”, they are responsible for finding the very best to join our ranks.
  • Holy Shield: These are the rubes that brave danger to support, help, and rescue other rubes. If you get into trouble, they get you out of it.

2. Rules, Regulations, and Requirements

The Holy Ministry of Rube Knights would not be a successful organization without its rules and regulations. Therefore knowing them will go a long way in helping you become a great Rube Knight. Here they are:

  • Rubes are always expected to abide by the doctrines prescribed within the Divine Incantations.
  • Rubes are always expected to honor Zodo and the Church of the Holy Body, but always Zodo first.
  • Rubes are expected to protect the Church of the Holy Body, even from members and leaders of the Church.
  • Rubes are expected to carry out their given orders unless their given orders contradicts the Word of Zodo and the Divine Incantations.
  • Rubes are expected to donate freely and often to the Church of the Holy Body so that the Church can continue to do the Will of Zodo.
  • Rubes are expected to protect true believers and each other.
  • Should a brother become a traitor, Rubes are expected to remove that traitor and make an example of that traitor.
  • Rubes are expected to demonstrate the Doctrine of Power and Personal Growth as demonstrated within the Divine Incantations.
  • Rubes are expected to assist the priests of the Holy Body and protect them from harm.
  • Rubes are expected to remove any member of the Holy Body and Rube Knights should they abandon faith.

As you can see, there is nothing stating that you cannot have fun, and that growing in power is expected of you. We want to show the world what Zodo has to offer and pave a way for His Will. We cannot however engage in activities that would get in the way of Zodo's Will.

  • Do not confuse the Will of Zodo.
  • Never claim yourself as greater than Zodo who gave you this power.
  • Do not confuse your own wants with the Will of Zodo.
  • Do not bring disgrace to Zodo or his Holy Church.

It is important to understand that as Rubes we are the hands of Zodo. Therefore we must always remember that even as we grow in tremendous power, it is in power given by Zodo, not by ourselves. We should also understand that while achieving our desires is the want of Zodo, it may not necessarily be his will. Zodo does want his believers to enjoy life. But Zodo's Will isn't held to one person getting what they want. Instead, Zodo's Will is for when that person gets what they want, they give credit and praise to Zodo. Otherwise, Zodo will take it from you.

3. The Eternal Flame

The Eternal Flame is the symbol of Zodo's Divine Will. It is used to represent both the Church of the Holy Body and the Holy Ministry of Rube Knights. Understanding and recognizing what this symbol means is very important!

The three flames represent the parts of Zodo that he so wisely entrusted to man kind.

“And a great plan was conceived to ensure that man kind and Zodo would never be separated and for the keeping of the promise of Ablution. Into three great pearls made unbreakable Zodo placed a part of himself – Will, Power, and Spirit. Zodo's Soul stayed with man and His Mind left to plan. In time a Vessel of Zodo's Choosing would come and with these pearls he'd fulfill the promise.” - Incantation of Genesis,The Divine Incantations, Zodo

These three flames represent the different parts of Zodo: Will, Power, and Spirit. The orb represents the Vessel and the white space the Soul.
